Real Facts About Mastiffs

The Mastiff is an ancient breed with drawings dating as far back as 650 BC. Mastiffs were used in battles against men, & in arenas pitted against bears & lions. Through the years, they have been loyal, family companions, guarding estates & homes of their families & masters. One of the most trustworthy breeds, " the kings of dogdom." Mastiffs are in the working group, & are used in carting, obedience, & therapy work. They have increased in popularity in the last 10 years, with more people breeding them. Unfortunately, the increased amount of breeders has also added to more Mastiffs needing to be rescued, & an incline of health & temperament issues & early deaths. As a breeder & owner of these gentle giants for the past 25 years, I honestly believe some owners are bringing the problems on themselves. With made up philosophies that "Mastiffs have to be house dogs," & "cannot exercise & play" & "are prone to injuries." I have always raised my dogs as outside dogs. They have large, fenced yards, with adequate housing & shade.  Mastiffs do slobber when they get hot, or just after drinking water! And they are "big" & require lots of care. The following pictures can give you an idea of the versatility of this breed, & will prove that Mastiffs can be active, family members!
